Victoria Law Foundation was once again delighted to participate in the annual Comview Conference, organised by the Victorian Commercial Teachers Association, held on the 28 and 29 November 2016.
Over 700 legal studies and commerce teachers attended the conference, which featured over 100 workshops and presentations.
Over the two days, a cohort of well-renowned speakers from a diverse range of professional backgrounds canvassed many topical issues, including the Dean of Melbourne Law School and Chair of the Council of Australian Law Deans, Professor Carolyn Evans, who presented on the relationship between law and religion, and the plebiscite and same sex marriage.
It was also good to hear Catherine Gough-Brady from Snodger Media talk about Legal Briefs, a series of short videos covering the nature of law and justice. Legal Briefs was funded by a legal information grant from the foundation and appeared on ABC TV 3 in June this year.
Our Education Manager, Fabiola Superina, led the foundation team in promoting our teacher resource database and regional, classroom and metropolitan Law Talks and publications. And for the first-time Fabiola, along with Emilia Maubach our Events Officer, presented at the conference on The Victorian Curriculum & VCE Legal Studies Teacher Resources – allowing us an opportunity to provide a more in-depth overview of our programs to our core legal studies teacher audience.
The informal breaks between sessions offered a unique opportunity to meet teachers from across Victoria and talk about what works and doesn’t work in the classroom. We were really pleased at the positive feedback we received from attendees about the contribution our education program makes to their work.
