Victoria Law Foundation is committed to access to justice, and the use of plain language in the law is an important element. Our goal is to share knowledge and expertise on the use of plain language across the legal and community sectors β to build an army of people who can improve the quality of legal information available to Victorians.
Following a review of our plain language training, we are making some changes to the way that the program is delivered for 2018/19.
Plain Language Training Intensive
This popular all-day workshop delivered by Bob Milstein of Words and Beyond offers an overview of the principles of plain language and practical advice to ensure your writing is clear, engaging and easily understood by your intended audience.
Previously, we have been able to offer these sessions free of charge. In 2018/19, we will be asking those who register to pay a small nominal fee to secure their place in the training:
- Small not-for-profit (20 or less employees) - $40
- Large not for profit (20 or more employees) - $60
- For profit organisations - $80
We will continue to prioritise people from not-for-profit legal organisations which provide community legal information or education.
The training will be promoted through our newsletter throughout the year, so subscribe now to keep informed of all future opportunities.
Plain language training for law students
We will no longer be delivering plain language training sessions to law students at universities. However, we will continue to work with law faculties and students to help up-and-coming lawyers communicate clearly. We have a range of materials to help students with their writing and communication skills: have a look at our Better Information Toolkit and plain language resources.
